In this series of paintings I have “skinned” iconically Western architecture such as the U.S. Capital Building, the Colosseum and suburban houses with a medley of Islamic geometric patterns typically found on and inside mosques. By merging these two lexicons of visual symbols of cultural identity I hope to compound and confuse the separation of these two worlds whose histories, politics and interests seem at times irreconcilable.
