Destruction of Homs, 2012, handmade egg tempera on panel, 7 x 5 in.

A contemporary approach to a historical genre

The miniature has always recorded, with great care, important historical events and cultural narratives: battles, sacred religious stories, morality fables, diplomatic missions, acts of heroism.

Created with egg tempera paint prepared by hand, my practice reflects the ongoing evolution of a traditional medium.

The tone and symbols within each work are influenced by historical manuscripts. Adapting the visual languages of Timurid, Safavid and Ottoman miniature paintings, my work interprets the events of today-- highlighting cultural cross-currents and exchange as an ongoing and formative condition.
